My artistic process is a journey into the world of human ambivalence. It is a journey to understand two sides within us, both the beautiful and the ugly. How we see each other translates into personal interaction. How we see our self translates into our personal identity.
My work includes oil, graphite, or mixed media using classical techniques. In some pieces I use only graphite, while in others I use classical oil. I am interested in the notion of beauty and the familiar.
My intention is to translate my emotional response through the entire projected image as it relates to our self or our environment. Philosophically, my images should lead us to create a dialogue, questioning the relationship of how we view ourselves and other living beings within our world. I am challenged by society's perspective of prescribed beauty.
"Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens." Carl Gustav Jung

Born in New York City, Susan Megur is the daughter of a professional photographer who introduced her to the arts and the international world at a very early age. Throughout her youth, she worked and traveled with her father to Europe, Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East. At 16, she resided in Guatemala, working with a diplomatic mission for peace. During her childhood, she learned about photography, color developing, and the art and culture of the regions she visited. These experiences became the basis for Susan’s understanding of how art and photography can capture the mood and essence of the human spirit. This was the foundation of Susan’s exploration into portraiture and the human figure.
Susan pursued her education at the Ecole Nationale Superieure Des Beaux-Arts, Paris, France, the Arts Students League, New York, Moore College of Art, Philadelphia, and Adelphi University, New York where she earned her Bachelors degree in Fine Arts and Art History in 1972. With determination to revisit her past education, in 2012, Susan received her Masters of Fine Arts in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Arts. In addition, she studied with Kathleen Gilje/ artist and conservator, Harmony Hammond and Joseph Santore/ Artists.
Susan began her career working in a foundry in Tucson Arizona. She worked sculpting in clay, metal welding and fiberglass. In time, leaving sculpting behind, she began working in the commercial world of product design and development. Simultaneously, Susan raised her family. The commercial work took her back to Europe and Asia. This led her to reconnect with international artists. She began to revisit painting and drawing. Susan was invited to participate in a special exhibition in Giverny France. Her experience reignited her passion for oil painting and her admiration for the classical, technical approach by the “Old Masters”. As time progressed Susan incorporated her classical techniques in her oil paintings and into her conceptual work with graphite and mixed media.
Susan has been published in “Best of Florida Artists and Artisans 2006”and "Best of America Oil Artists" Volume II for 2009. In 2008, She was commissioned to create a special painting for Florida Atlantic University School of Communications.During her career, Susan has exhibited her work in galleries, universities, and corporations, throughout the United States. Such exhibitions include: Solo shows at PGA City Hall Florida and Sothebys International. She has participated in group shows at The Cornell Museum/Delray, the Coral Springs Museum, Hibel Museum, Gallery Center/ Boca Raton, Long Island University C.W. Post/ New York, Adelphi University, Temple University, University of Arizona, Etienne International Inc./Hong Kong.
Today, Susan resides in Florida. She is currently an Executive Board Member of Women In The Visual Arts of South Florida and past President. She is an exhibiting member of The National Association of Women Artists in both New York and Florida, as well as a past exhibiting member of The Boca Raton Museum Artists Guild and a past member of Oil Painters of America..
Susan’s multifaceted graphite and mixed media images, alongside her oil paintings, continue to express her commitment to understand our culture's notion of physical beauty, and how we see and understand each other. She works to explore her contemporary artistic conceptual view of the 21st century with her vision concerning the problems related to personal human marginalization.
